January has been a busy month with site updates developing the blogs/journals for Scott’s party (the British Antarctic Expedition 1910, which sometimes referred to as the Terra Nova Expedition) and for back-end development;
- 5 characters are posting regularly; Scott, Wilson, Lieut. Evans, Apsley Cherry-Garrard and The Press
-
- Scott
- Wilson
- Evans
- Apsley Cherry-Garrard
- The Press
- Tryggve Gran
- Roald Amundsen
A lot of the effort on content for their journals has gone into graphics development, for example the floor-plan for the winter quarters “hut” that is in Scott’s journal post of January 19th (link to that journal post)

Plan of Scott’s Winter Quarters at Cape Evans
…although on that plan I originally managed to get the hut pointing 180o the wrong way! Whoops!! That would have confused our intrepid band of explorers ;-)
Twitter and Facebook – Another Major Breakthrough
For a little while the bloggers have been posting notes of update directly to Twitter, the site itself (admin) also posts to Twitter and re-tweet’s everyone else’s posts. This is good from the point of view of people who just want to follow one Twitter account but notifications are a posted a little while later than they are from the individual user accounts. So, if you have a favourite follow them directly and find out exactly when they post updates!
There is a page on this site which is 90% finished which will show the account names for everybody, both on Twitter and Facebook.
With Facebook, at the moment there is only one account (username Race.For.The.Pole) for everyone. I’ve done things this way for a couple of reasons:
- To make it easier to find/read updates from everyone (without having to follow loads of different accounts)
- To make it easier to get working on this site! …getting things organised to work via Facebook was a bit of a headache!
When that page is finished I’ll post here but you’ll also see a link in the menu bar that says “Follow Us”.
Laters!
