The main, or primary, content of this site is the diary content of the expedition members - this diary content is referred to as a "journal" because that is the name that they used.

This site presents this information in the style of a modern-day blog, however to maintain a little historical context we use the phrase "journals" and not "blogs" because back in the day they were called journals. The way the two expeditions, British and Norwegian, were organised means that detailed journals exist only for the British Antarctic Expedition.

Although the expedition book published by the Norwegian expedition does have content from expedition members other than Amundsen, in practice it seems this content was written from scratch after the expedition and that notes were not taken at the time to be susequently written up. In fact it also seems that Amundsen did not keep a journal as such during his expedition. Nor did his expedition do any scientific study during their time in Antarctica and it has been said that they took only three photographs over the entire time. These points I mention here to explain why there is so very little content on this site relating to the Norwegian expedition. It also explains why there is only one Twitter presence for all of the Norwegian expedition: Amundsen.

Twitter and Facebook

There are two ways to keep up-to-date with the journal (blog) updates on this site; Twitter and Facebook.

Notes to help you:

  • All journals/blogs post to twitter to their own twitter accounts whenever they publish journal content.
  • tweets are made by each account as soon as the journal/blog post is made.
  • RaceForThePole also re-tweets tweets that have been made by the expedition members
    - when RaceForThePole re-tweets it is not re-tweeted as soon as the post is made
it is re-tweeted a little bit later in the day.

  • Facebook goes only to one account username: Race.For.The.Pole
the reason for this is to make it easier to follow,
so that there are not too many accounts to follow.

The people and how to follow them are:
